[+]Months ago I was standing in line at the supermarket behind a cute girl in shorts, and all I could keep looking at was the D.C. flag tattoo on her arm. I’ve had tattoo envy before, and each time conceded that there was no symbol I believed in so strongly that I would get it permanently drawn on my skin. But the District flag is especially seductive to me for two reasons: (1) Its minimalist design makes it endlessly adaptable, much like the Black Flag logo, and (2) I’ve never had local pride, and now I want it bad. I love New York in my own way, but I’m not getting, like, a Jay-Z lyric tattooed on me anytime soon.
