  1. A year ago I picked up an odd habit: If I was feeling especially lousy, and I happened to be sitting in front of my computer, I’d quickly snap a picture with the built-in webcam. I don’t have exact dates for these, but I believe they’re fairly evenly spaced over time. The first was taken in December of 2010, the second just a few minutes ago.
Dejection and self-examination tend to go hand-in-hand for me: If I’m upset about work or a girl, I’ll zero in on a bad haircut or an acne scar, as if to intensify the mental narrative by illustrating it with something physical. The quirk of this particular experiment is that the instant I’ve captured the image, I feel a tiny bit better.  A year ago I picked up an odd habit: If I was feeling especially lousy, and I happened to be sitting in front of my computer, I’d quickly snap a picture with the built-in webcam.
